Village of Light 2026

Coronation Park , Loftus

Village of Light returned to Coronation Park in Loftus on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March 2026 , filling the park with a collection of magical handmade lanterns created by local people.

Village of Light was a small, relaxed community celebration, designed as a gentle evening stroll through the park.

Schools, families and community groups took part in lantern-making workshops in the lead-up to the event, creating a memorable and atmospheric experience that reflects the character of Loftus and the surrounding coastline.

Lantern Village

As dusk fell, visitors were invited to wander through the installation of lanterns inspired by the natural landscape, wildlife and seasonal rhythms of the coast.  Spotting familiar birds, imagined creatures or glowing forms that appeared only once night settled in.

This theme ,The Secret Life of the Coast, explored the journey from moorland and villages to cliffs, beaches and open sea. Lanterns revealed hidden worlds and in-between spaces, things that move, watch or glow at the edge of land, water and sky, coming to life at dusk.
